To assist Anglian Learning in achieving ‘net zero’, a strategic approach has been taken based around ‘fabric first’, reducing electrical demand from the grid and then switching to electrically generated hot water and heating.
Funding very rarely facilitates a ‘whole site’ approach to decarbonisation so an elemental approach has been taken. PCH mapped out electrical supplies, assessed peak demand and identifies locations for PV to be installed based upon the condition of the roof areas.
A trust-wide approach was taken to maximise value for money and all PV arrays were connected to an (alarmed) monitoring portal.
This strategic approach has meant that consideration could be given to an electric heating option as and when boiler plant reaches the end of its operable life.
